President Tsai Ing-wen, Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan Cheng Wen-tsang, and Minister of the Interior Lin Yu-chang attended the Joint Graduation Ceremony of the Central Police University.
The graduation ceremony of the Central Police University took place on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. President Tsai Ing-wen personally presided over the ceremony, while Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan Cheng Wen-tsang and Minister of the Interior Lin Yu-chang also gave their congratulations to the graduates. They conveyed their support for police education and expressed their hope that the graduates would bring innovative energy to the field of technological investigation, becoming a powerful force in fighting crime and contributing to the country.
In her speech, President Tsai Ing-wen expressed three expectations for the graduates of CPU. Firstly, she urged everyone to remember their initial motivations and to empathize with the citizens’ concerns. Secondly, she emphasized that the graduation ceremony should mark the beginning of a new stage of learning, rather than the end of their educational journey. Lastly, she encouraged the graduates to actively contribute to the progress and development of the police system, striving to bring about positive changes that align with the evolving needs of society and better serve the public.
Vice Premier of the Executive Yuan Cheng Wen-tsang highlighted the government's commitment to supporting the police force and safeguarding the rights of officers. He mentioned that the government has not only increased welfare benefits, such as police duty surcharges but has also allocated a higher budget for upgrading law enforcement technology and equipment. He expressed his hope that the graduates would strive to unleash their full potential, demonstrate their abilities, and secure their desired positions within the police career.
Minister of the Interior, Lin Yu-chang, emphasized the significance of technology-based crime prevention skills in rapidly evolving times and society. The ability to conduct technical investigations is now a fundamental and crucial quality for all law enforcement personnel.
Minister Lin further highlighted the importance of the Central Police University's programs, including the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs, which serve as a vital research institution for crime prevention and public security in the country. Recognizing the importance of strengthening the university's capabilities, he made efforts to secure funding of $390 million under the initiative of "enhancing teaching capacity in response to new criminal patterns." This funding aims to effectively enhance the capabilities of criminal investigation and forensic research at CPU, ensuring that students receive comprehensive training and become a strong support for practical law enforcement agencies.
In conclusion, the minister encouraged the graduates by highlighting the Central Police University as the nurturing ground for police leaders in the country. He expressed his hope that each graduate would continue to uphold the CPU spirit in their future endeavors. In closing, he extended his heartfelt wishes for a prosperous future for all the graduates, hoping that their aspirations and dreams would be fulfilled.
