On September 4,2023, the Student Corp held an evening roll call, during which students from the 89th Fire Department and the 90th Water Department shared their internship experiences during the summer break.

Firstly, 89th Fire Department student Lin, Yi Cheng shared his internship experience at the Nantou County Jhushan Town Ministry of the Interior Fire Department Training Center under the title "Knowing There's a Tiger in the Mountain, Yet Still Choosing to Go." He described his participation in various simulated fire and chemical disaster scenarios, swiftwater rescue, mountain rescue operations, and the development of personal and team skills, including physical training and equipment handling. He emphasized the hardships faced by firefighters and expressed his determination to apply his acquired knowledge as a future fire department leader to ensure the safety of his colleagues during disaster response missions.

Following that, students from the 90th Water Department, Liao,Zi Wei, Yu, Jia Yu, and Xiao, Jun You, shared their internship experiences at the Coast Guard units. Their experiences were divided into three phases: basic safety training, motorboat training, and learning experiences with the Taichung and Kaohsiung Coast Guard units. Basic safety training included survival skills, fire prevention, and basic first aid training, with simulations of various emergency situations on board ships, such as injured personnel and shipboard fires. Motorboat training covered both theoretical and practical aspects of operating motorboats in compliance with legal regulations. During their internships with the Taichung Third Coast Guard Unit and the Kaohsiung Fifth Coast Guard Unit, they learned about maritime and aerial rescue, typhoon patrol boat operations, and projects related to the protection of marine resources and ecosystems. Through these internships, they gained insights into the responsibilities of future leaders, emphasizing the need to develop professional knowledge and skills and lead by example to accomplish assigned tasks.

Commander in Chief, Chen Huitang, encouraged the students with the following points:

Acquire Professional Knowledge and Skills:
During the internship period, students should diligently acquire various professional knowledge and skills. As future leaders, this will enable them to lead their subordinates effectively in completing assigned missions.

Understand the Significance of Summer Internships:
The school actively organizes summer internships, and reputable individuals from the practical units lead students to gain insights into various operational tasks and professional knowledge. The goal is to combine theoretical knowledge acquired at school with practical experience, building professional knowledge and capabilities for future leadership roles.

Evaluate the Effectiveness of Learning:
Work and tasks during internships at various practical units may differ from the theoretical knowledge taught by teachers at school. Through internships, students can accumulate practical experience and understand the differences between theory and practice. Any issues encountered during internships should be thoroughly discussed with professors to assist in future preparation for practical examinations.

Summer Internships Are Academic:
Summer internships have now been integrated into the academic curriculum. The school plans to conduct assessments and require students to write reflections after internships. The purpose is to evaluate students' learning effectiveness during the internship period, serving as a basis for future internship course planning.

Lastly, Commander in Chief reminded all teachers and students that the school will officially implement the Gender Equity Education Act on March 8, 2024. To ensure compliance with campus gender equality regulations, it is emphasized that squad leaders and internship supervisors, regardless of their roles or gender, should conduct guidance and support using verbal communication to avoid causing discomfort through physical contact. Various large-scale gatherings and training activities will be used in the future to educate students on the content and cases related to the Gender Equity Education Act. Relevant complaint channels will also be established to ensure the protection of individual privacy and rights while promoting gender equality. It is expected that students will become law enforcement officers in the future and work to protect their own and their colleagues' rights in a gender-equal working environment.
